Turning Pages, Solving Problems, Chasing Goals.

Hi, I’m Max! I started this website when I was nine because I love reading, solving puzzles, playing sports, and exploring new ideas. One day I hope to be a scientist, and writing helps me practice explaining and sharing what I discover.

This website is my journal, workshop, and playground all in one. I hope you enjoy following along as I learn and share.

Ivan’s Choice

By

Prompt: Do you think Ivan in the book The One and Only Family made the right choices as a father and leader?

Making choices for your family can be very hard, and Ivan has to make many important choices in The One and Only Ruby. In the story, Ivan lives at the zoo with Kinyani and their baby gorillas. Even though the zoo keeps them safe, the family still faces problems, like loud noises and surprises that can make the infants afraid. Ivan knows he must teach his infants carefully so they can grow up to be strong.

One important choice Ivan makes is staying calm when something dangerous or confusing happens. Even when he feels worried, he does not panic or get angry. Instead, he watches closely, moves slowly, and keeps his children close to him. This helps them feel safe because they trust him. Ivan is the silverback, which means he is the leader and protector of his family. By staying calm, Ivan shows great courage. His children learn that being brave does not always mean fighting. Sometimes bravery means taking a deep breath and thinking before you act.

Another big choice Ivan makes is teaching his children how to be brave in peaceful ways. When the young gorillas get upset or feel frustrated, Ivan reminds them to think first and choose a good path. He wants them to understand that real bravery is trying your best even when something is scary or difficult. He does not want them to use violence. Instead, he wants them to use their hearts and their minds. Sometimes it seems like Ivan wishes bravery could be easier, but he still teaches his children the most important lessons he knows.

This is why I believe Ivan makes the right choices as a father. He uses love, patience, and courage to guide his family. As his children learn from him every day, they begin to understand that real bravery means caring for the ones you love and doing what is right, even when it is hard.
